So I've been living in Montreal for the past few years but am having trouble finding a place to get a better than average haircut for the price that I am willing to pay.  As I am a university student, I don't have that much money to spend and since my hair grows ridiculously fast, I'm looking for a place that is reasonable ($15 to $20 for a haircut) and that can cut asian hair.

I've tried a few places on St. Laurent and St. Denis such as Ghandini Coiffure, which is a student learning hair salon.  My experience there has been okay and the last time I went was really bad - the girl didn't know how to cut asian hair and basically had her "teacher" do it.  But it is really cheap only $10 for a haircut.  So I'm looking for something similar to that but with the bonus that they know what they are doing...no Chinatown recommendations, I don't really trust $5 haircuts.

My colleagues and I are looking for a good place to go for a New Years brunch on Saturday the 16th. I know the topic of brunch has been discussed to death in this community over the years, but I have a couple of specific requirements (and the memories don't get updated):

- we will likely have at least eight people, and might need to add an extra person or two at the last minute, so all of the lovely but small breakfast joints in the city won't work.
- it has to be reasonably priced - not more than $20 including taxes and tip and whatnot.
- a few people will be driving in from the 'burbs so they would prefer if there is easy parking nearby - which makes Broadway more attractive than downtown.
- it has to be at least decently healthy. The likes of Denny's and White Spot are absolutely NOT what we are looking for.
- this is really just a personal one, but who has good, homemade hashbrowns? I like big chunks of potatoes with my eggs, not deep fried mushy stuff.

My own suggestion is O'Doul's on Robson because average brunch entrees are between $13-$16, they take reservations, their food is delicious and they can easily seat large parties.

Honestly, if there's nothing that suits us better, I'll just try and push them to go for O'Doul's... I just know that my suburbanite colleagues don't want to deal with driving downtown.

Do any of the hotels on Broadway have restaurants which would suit our needs?

Does anyone know if there will be a public rally protesting Stephen Harper's prorogation of parliament? It looks like other cities are hosting rallies on the 23rd, but I haven't found any information about one here in Montreal.

I want to buy multiple blank American Apparel t-shirts for screenprinting. Is there somewhere that I can buy these locally for bargain-cheap, or can I buy them bargain-cheap at american apparel (the store)? Their website seems to list their plain ol' t-shirts at 18.00 and that is, quite frankly, way the hell too expensive.

Alternatively, does anybody know of a non-skeazy/dependable website where I could order these t-shirts in semi-bulk for a better price? Is expecting these shirts at 5-6 bucks a pop totally unreasonable? I mean, that's still a profit margin for them of approximately $5.75.

This isn't exactly a "Montreal" question, but maybe some people here will be able to help me. I work full-time as a nanny and I was on holiday vacation from the 24th to the 4th. Now the family is gone on vacation abroad until Jan 22nd. This is an extremely long time for me to be without salary. Is there anything that I can do about it to get like chomage or anything like that? I'm pregnant and kinda freaking out about $$! Thanks in advance.

Edit: My holiday vacation was dictated by my bosses not me. Basically THEY took Dec 24th - Jan 4th off for the holidays and are now taking a trip from Jan 4th - Jan 22nd.

My business partner and I are doing an edgy bridal portrait shoot for a new direction we are taking our wedding photography business, and are in need of a couple of wedding dresses for this Saturday. We are happy to rent them or pay a deposit for their use, or if you have a simple white gown (doesn't have to be a wedding dress) that you would like to sell for a reasonable price please let me know. We looked at buying one, and the prices are just too out of our budget. They will be used indoors in a studio with professional models so they will be safe!

Specific style of the shoot? Think rockabilly/ funky/ 50s retro, so a simple dress is better.

I really need to send a little package to my friend in Toronto, but she is leaving country on Thursday noon.
I'll try to call ups/fedex tomorrow morning, but i think it will be really expensive for urgent delivery.

Okay, so maybe this is a stupid question, but I'm really interested in the 1980's style of glasses that were trendy recently.
Does anyone know where I could get glasses like that? Is it possible to find a pair second hand and have my prescription put in? How much would it cost?

I want to get 2 pairs of microdermals on my chest in the near future. I've always been to Adrenaline for my "regular" piercings but I was wondering if anyone knew of a better place for microdermals. I don't mind having to go out of the city (anything métro-accessible) if it means I won't have 4 nasty bruises on my chest from someone who didn't know how to do it properly.

I need beginner climbing shoes. Cliffhanger's $5 rental fee will add up quickly over time, and won't help me in the summer when I go climbing outside.

I've found these for $79 at MEC. Should I just go with this, or should I shop around a little more? (I have a tendency to just stick with MEC because it's so convenient.) Where else could I go in Van for climbing shoes? Does Coast Mountain Sports sell them? Their website gives no info. Can anyone recommend a particular shop on West 4th or on Broadway near MEC (two areas where outdoor sporting good shops have conglomerated)?

I've changed internet providers-Shaw arrived this morning to hook up the connection which was when i discovered that their service isn't wireless.

So if i don't want to be stuck in one spot i need to buy a wireless router. Any advice on what would be the best one to buy (i use a macbook) that won't lead to me pulling my hair out in frustration?? I'm an idiot when it comes to technology setup!
